Pi preferences live in your account, not the workspace. Two people in the same workspace can tune Pi to behave differently. Open the panel at Account > Pi preferences.

Tone, Depth, and the voice profile

These three settings work together but apply at different moments.

  • Tone and Depth shape every Pi answer in the composer. They control how Pi talks back to you.
  • Voice profile shapes drafts Pi writes for you (emails, comments, summaries you’ll send to a customer). It controls how Pi writes as you.

A teammate who likes detailed answers in the composer but writes short emails to customers would set Depth to Detailed and keep their voice profile’s Brevity short.

Workspace overrides

A workspace admin can lock a preference for every teammate at Admin > Workspace settings > Pi defaults. Locked preferences show a small lock icon in your panel and you can’t change them. Common locks:

  • Cite by default: On (compliance-heavy teams)
  • Prompt history: Keep 30d (data minimization policies)
  • Forecast confidence floor: Medium (so executives don’t see low-confidence chips)

Ask your admin to unlock if you need to change one.

Resetting

Click Reset preferences at the bottom of the panel to drop everything back to workspace defaults. Your voice profile is separate; reset it from its own page. Reset takes effect on the next prompt.

Gotcha: depth and voice profile fighting each other

If you set Depth to Detailed but your voice profile’s Brevity says “two sentences”, drafts come out short and direct answers come out long. The two settings live on purpose. Pi follows Brevity when drafting and Depth when explaining.
